Robin Vela

Chairman, National Social Security Authority, Zimbabwe

Robin is the Chairman of the National Social Security Authority of Zimbabwe (“NSSA”) and First Mutual Wealth (Private) Limited, institutions with over US$1.3 billion and US$250 million of assets under management respectively. Robin is a professionally qualified and experienced Investment Banker; and Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (“ICAEW”) and the UK Chartered Securities Institute. In 2016, Robin was appointed to the ICAEW Member’s Advisory Board for Africa.

Robin is also a member of the Institute of Directors in Southern Africa and the past Patron for the African Institute of Petroleum. Robin is also a former appointed consultant to the World Bank, IFC and Sanlam Investment Managers in Swaziland.
Robin has founded and led a Johannesburg & London Stock Exchange (AIM List) listed entity; co-founded two separate UK equity investment funds and worked for top tier bulge bracket financial institutions in the City of London as a senior private equity/ investment banking executive for more than 20 years. He has a verifiable track record of leading and closing corporate and investment related transactions in Sub-Saharan Africa and the City of London. Robin has been instrumentally involved in power, energy and Oil and Gas projects in (inter alia): Zimbabwe, Uganda, South Africa, DRC, Malawi, Egypt and Nigeria. Through Lonsa Capital, Firstmile Properties and its affiliates, Robin holds various interests in Resources, Infrastructure, Property, Logistics and various cash generative businesses principally in Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Robin holds various directorships including of NSSA, First Mutual Holdings Limited, First Banking Corporation Holdings Limited, and
Lonsa Group Limited. Robin graduated with an honours degree in Economics and Accounting from Bristol University.
