Malizole Mdlekeza (FIA FASSA CAIA CERA) is a qualified South African pensions & investments actuary.
He is the founder and managing director of MDM Actuaries, an independent, professional actuarial and investment consulting firm focusing on providing specific solutions for pension funds & institutional investors. This draws from his passion for pensions & investments, and his vast experience spanning over 10 years across various areas of financial services.
He serves as the chairman of the Actuarial Society of South Africa’s – Alternative Investments Forum. This is a committee consisting of 15 actuaries and actuarial professionals looking at assessing the suitability of alternative investments such as infrastructure, private equity and hedge funds for institutional investors such as pension funds. Issues such as diversification, assessing the suitability of returns given the risks, as well as broader issues such as impact investing & social/ESG factors are central to the committee’s work and research.
Further to this, Malizole Mdlekeza is a lecturer in actuarial science at the University of Cape Town, Africa’s number 1 ranked university & the university from which he twice graduated. At UCT, he focuses on lecturing various postgraduate actuarial courses around pensions and investments. He is the first black South African lecturer in actuarial science in UCT’s nearly 200-year history.
